If you’re wanting to mix countertop or bar top materials, a basin might be for you. In this article we tell it all. We explain what a countertop basin is, why someone might want to use a basin design and where you can order a custom counter basin.
What is a countertop basin?
A countertop basin is built like a tray, with an edge profile in one material. Another material is inserted into the tray bottom. The bottom is typically fabricated in the same material as the edge profile and holds the top material.

Why use a bar top basin?
They are often specified when the designer wants to mix two or more materials to create a unique countertop or bartop. At La Bastille, we specialize in cast metal. Our clients who specify a basin are typically wanting a metal edge profile with stone, glass or wood top.

Where to order a basin counter?
You will need to order the basin from the counter material fabricator. They will know how thick to make the tray and how tall the edge profile will need to be to support the different materials.
