At La Bastille we specialize in designing and fabricating one-of-a-kind cast metal range hoods. Our clients often ask for our help during the design phase and we are commonly asked what the different range hood parts are called.

In this blog post we are going to explain each section of a range hood and what decorative components you might select for that section. We hope you find this article helpful, but if you still have questions, we are here to help!

Crown

As you might expect, the range hood crown is a decorative feature at the top of the hood. It sits above the body, like a crown. The crown is optional and is purely decorative. The two most common crown options our clients choose are cove molding and traditional molding. Cove crown offers a cleaner line, while traditional is more intricate.

Body

The body is the largest range hood part and comes in a variety of shapes including: straight, curved, compound curve and more. The hood body can be decorated with straps and rivets. Straps and rivets offer a more industrial look and can really dress up a simple range hood body shape. Straps and rivets can be the same metal as the range hood body, or a contrasting metal.

Apron

The apron is an important range hood part. Is the bottom lip of the hood and, like the body, is available in a variety of designs. You might choose a horizontal strap with rivets apron, or something more intricate like a traditional crown.

When it comes to designing a custom metal hood, the sky is truly the limit. Looking at all of the available options and imagining how they might look together might seem overwhelming but at La Bastille our design team creates a custom 3D design so you can see your custom piece before fabrication.
